warm ears

Filed under: FOs — risknit @ 3:22 pm

I needed something to warm my ears. I have a lot of hair so hats are not always the best option, and I have a fleece earband I wear running. I love it but it gets SWEATY. I had been thinking about knitting one for a while and then when I saw Calorimetry, I thought it was nearly perfect… and so I knit this up.

Yarn: I think I threw away the ball-band. Whoops.
Pattern: Calorimetry from Knitty
Started: Jan 18, 2007
Finished: Jan 21, 2007
Mods: I made it thinner overall, but thicker at the nape of the neck, and the thinnest part is longer than called for in the pattern. I sewed the ends up instead of adding a button.

My orecchiette are much warmer… and I will definitely be making some more of these!

Snow Day!!

Filed under: socks, WIPs, yarns i love — risknit @ 5:08 pm

We got sent home from work early today… so I’ve been listing some items on eBay and working on the latest socks. For my mum… in Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock in “Gold Hill”. I was a bit apprehensive about the colorway when it arrived on my doorstep, but after a go from my mum, I got knitting and as it turns out, I love it, and if I can part with these socks my mum will be very pleased :)

Close up:

Also one of the FO’s I promised before…

Piratey Socks for M (arr!)
Yarn: Yarn Pirate in Inferno
Started: shortly after X-mas
Finished: February 4, 2007 (I think)
Needles: Knitpicks 2.0mm

He loves the socks. I love the yarn. I hope some time in the future I’ll be able to get my hands on some more!

And yes, sometimes I knit things other than socks… heh.

Lots of FOs…

Filed under: favorites, FOs, socks — risknit @ 11:17 pm

But right now my camera batteries are dying (probably dead by now) so I can only show two.

First up, boring plain jane stockinette socks that I kept forgetting to photograph!

Jewel of the Nile Socks
Yarn: STR Lightweight in Jewel of the Nile
Needles: 2.25mm Inox (I think)
Started: No clue
Finished: A while ago. I’ve been wearing these for a couple months now.
These are a leettle beet too big… but I love them anyway.

And,

Lakeside Multi-directional Scarf for the boy’s sister
Yarn: Sundara Yarn dk merino/silk in Lakeside
Needles: 3.75mm Inox
Started: January 10, 2007
Finished: January 17, 2007
Pattern: Multi-directional scarf (here)

I adore this scarf. ADORE. It’s so silky and soft and has this excellent sheen. This was a birthday gift for M’s sister and if it wasn’t already late and we had something else to give her… or even an IDEA of something else to get her there’s no way I would have given this away. It is one of my favorite patterns to knit (this was the second time, after a kid-sized scarf that will go to Dulaan 07) and this is one of my favorite yarns. Now I need to make one for myself!

Next time, more socks, more scarves, and a couple other bits too!
